Day of Inspiration

Dear saints,

Today we enjoyed another full day of teaching. Pastor Rick has asked me to teach the first hour each day on the reading assignment from the book Sola Scriptura. This morning I taught the chapter: “sola scriptura and the Early Church,” demonstrating that the doctrine of sola scriptura was not an innovation, but has been the conviction of the true church throughout history. I also had the chance to teach the men the song “Soli Deo Gloria.”

Pastor Rick finished up the lecture on Special Revelation: the Scriptures, looking at the different attitudes that exist about the Bible, the doctrine of Progressive Revelation, and the completion of Revelation. After the break, he began the lessons on Inspiration. He included discussion on Inspiration by looking at the Definition, the Process, the Extent, the Nature, and the Purpose of Inspiration. He also explained the Faulty Theories of Inspiration. After lunch, we looked at the Proofs of Inspiration from the Text itself, from Logic (the Nature of God, the Unity of the Bible, and the Prophecies Fulfilled). This discussion launched a lengthy explanation of the Cessationist position on how offices of Apostle and Prophet were temporary for the 1st century and foundational for the building of the church. Today, the offices of Evangelists and Pastor-Teachers are what God is using to build the church. This was very lively and considered many interactive questions. For some of these men, they’ve never heard a comprehensive treatment of these subjects. The Lord is really working to refine and strengthen the theology of these leaders! We praise the Lord for the ability to be involved in helping Pastor Situma in this way.

Right after class, we left and went to the Rift Vally overlook – about 40 minutes north from Eldoret. It was a beautiful view and we enjoyed the fellowship with Pastor Situma and one of the students. We were able to look down on a lake that was about 12 miles away in which an estimated 6,000 crocodiles live. There is also a game reserve that has 500 elephants and many other African animals in protected living. We saw the preserve, but none of the animals! We returned to the hotel to have dinner right at dusk. We then spent the evening readying the quizzes & lectures for tomorrow, grading today’s quizzes, and discussing the reading assignment.

This is my dear brother James. He is a godly man and serves with college and youth ministry.

Here is Pastor Rick and Pastor Situma enjoying God's creation.

Thank you for praying so faithfully for us!

In Christ
Paul and Rick
