Day of Revelation

Today was our first day of regular schedule. Yesterday we had the preliminaries after a late start. Today we began at 8:15 AM after a typical, bumpy and chaotic ride to the church from our hotel.  Here is an interesting time lapse video of the trip from door to door!

Our day with the students began as I led the group in learning the song “Mighty, Mighty Savior.” They picked it up quickly and enjoyed it. We’ll be learning a new song each day. We then gave them their first quiz – they all did very well! Then I led in a instruction of the first chapter in Sola Scriptura entitled “What Do We Mean by sola scriptura?” It was a joy to be able to teach these men the principles of our dependency and confidence in God’s Word.

Pastor Rick then took the first period of the day to complete the Prolegomena discussion on 1) the Presuppositions of Theology; 2) the Value of Systematic Theology; and, 3) the Role of Reason & Experience in Theology. After our break, we covered the doctrine of Revelation with a discussion on defining revelation, both Natural Revelation and Special Revelation. We covered what the Bible teaches about 1) Natural Revelation and the Knowledge of God; 2) the Content of Natural Revelation; and, 3) the Various Views of Natural Revelation from the Roman Catholic, Liberal, and Biblical perspectives.

After lunch, Pastor Rick dealt with the issues of Special Revelation – dealing with Angels, Miracles, Audible Voices of God, Casting Lots, the Urim & Thummim, Theophanies, Christophanies, Dreams, Visions, Prophecy, and finally the apex of Revelation – the Son of God. This led into a discussion of the completion of Revelation through the Scriptures and Pastor Rick carefully, tenderly, and capably taught the class that contains some Pentecostals the truths of how we have “everything pertaining to life and godliness” in God’s completed revelation in Scripture. It was a great response to the power of the Word. Please pray that what was taught will possess the minds of those who were struggling with it. Here is the group of our dear brothers in Christ!

After a brief afternoon of rest, we were taken to a young couple’s home for supper. It was a great opportunity to fellowship with them and they served us a very satisfying meal. Please pray for Samuel & Katheryn who have been married for 10 years and are praying that God will give them a child. We came back to the hotel to grade the quizzes, prepare for tomorrow’s lectures and quiz. God is working! So please keep praying!

By grace,
Paul and Rick
